Windows Phone OS now free for Tablets and smartphones

Microsoft has officially announced that Windows Phone OS will be free for devices below 9-inch display size. It is very clear that smartphones and tablets (below 9-inch) will be able to port Windows Phone OS for free. This uncertain right that whether Microsoft will charge Manufacturers for Microsoft and Nokia services or not, we suspect it will charge else otherwise the company will get a huge blow on their in terms of financial losses.

Right now Google is offering manufacturers free Operating System for smartphones and tablets no matter what their sizes are but charges them only for Google services like Gmail, Playstore, Google Apps etc etc etc.. Recently there were some rumors about Microsoft waiving off license fees for manufacturers in India and has announced Micromax as their official hardware partner in India.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS became popular with Nokia’s Lumia series of phones. The current most popular Windows based smartphones are Lumia 520, Lumia 1520, Lumia 1320, Lumia 800 and Lumia 925. Nokia also launched the Lumia 630, Lumia 635 and Lumia 930 recently and expanded the members in its Lumia family.

The recent rumors have come out to be true and to our surprise Microsoft has not waived off fees for one or two manufacturers but for all manufacturers to compete with Android. Now that Windows Phone OS will be free we may soon see a spur of Windows based smartphones. This strategic move from Microsoft will help cut cost of Windows based devices and will make them more affordable. We at Sulekha are excited about this move from Microsoft and are ready to report launches of multiple Windows based devices from various manufacturers.
